إنّ الغرض الرئيسي من هذا الكتاب هو التحدّث إلى الأب والأم في كل عائلة وإلى اللّذين يضمّان بين أجنحتهما صبيانًا وبناتٍ صغارًا على وشك الوصول إلى ما سمّاه المرشدون وعلماء النفس "طور المراهقة". وبما أنّ تحديد سني هذه الفترة يختلف قليلاً بين علماء النفس، فقد اختار الكاتب أن يشمل المراهقين من الحد الأدنى، أي سن العاشرة، إلى الحد الأقصى، أي سن التاسعة عشرة. وموضوع الكتاب الرئيسي هو الجنس والسلوك الجنسي عند الشبيبة وكيفية تناول هذا الموضوع من قِبَل الأب والأم من جهة والمراهق والمراهقة من جهة أخرى. ويؤسفنا القول إنّ عددًا من المطبوعات تتناول هذا الموضوع الحساس لأغراض غير سليمة هدفها الإثارة والقذارة والتعليل والتضليل. لذا عمدنا في هذا الكتاب إلى تقديم الموضوع بأسلوب مشوِّق معتمدين كليًّا حقائق واقتراحات علمية صدرت عن علماء نفس وأطباء إختصاصيين، ونحن نقصد أيضًا أن نعرف ما يقوله الكتاب المقدّس عن هذا الموضوع المهم، طالبين إلى تعالى أن يستخدم لمجده ولإفادة الكثيرين ما يحويه هذا الكتاب من إرشادات وتحذيرات.
