تصطحبنا الكاتبة شيرين عادل في "هوستيل" بين الجغرافيا والتاريخ، في رحلة أوروبية جديدة وشيقة، لثلاث دول أوروبية مروراً بأهم المدن وهم سويسرا والسويد وإيطاليا. وهي ترصد في رحلتها هذه واقعاً حقيقياً لما يمكن أن يحدث خلال أيام خارج بلادها وما يمكن التعرض له من مشكلة مادية وعرقية وأيضاً ما ينتج عن صعوبة في التواصل بين الشعوب المختلفة في أرجاء العالم، فيما يختلفون من حيث اللغة والعادات والتقاليد.
تهدف شيرين عادل من كتابها هذا إلقاء الضوء وبشكل مباشر عن كيفية الحصول على رحلة منخفضة التكاليف من حيث الإقامة في "هوستيل"، انطلاقاً من أن ثقافة السفر تعتمد أولاً وأخيراً على الرغبة في التحدي ومواجهة المخاطر وخوض التجربة بأكملها وليس فقط هو توفير المال اللازم لذلك.
ولم تنسى الكاتبة في سياق عرضها لرحلاتها هذه أن تزود القارئ بكمّ هائل من المعلومات الدينية والحضارية والتاريخية لكل المدن التي قامت بزيارتها، فكان لكل مكان قصة، مما جعل اللمحة التاريخية طاغية على الحكايات المواقف فأقامت بعض المقارنات بين العصور والأزمنة التي احتضنت كل تلك الفترات بكل أحداثها الصغيرة والكبيرة لتوضح بذلك كل الألغاز وتجيب عن كل الأسئلة.
كل هذه القصص تندرج ضمن إطار التجربة الإنسانية وعمق ما يستحوذ على النفس البشرية جراء انتقالاها من بلادها إلى بلد آخر، فتتأثر المشاعر الإنسانية بما مرت به وتنشأ معها ثقافة الترحال.
