مع غروب شمس القرن التاسع عشر، والتحافها شفق البحر الأبيض المتوسط، أخذةً معها ذكريات مجاعاتٍ وحُرُوبٍ، ومذابحَ أربعة قرون مظلمة قضاها لبنان تحت سطوةٍ الإمبراطورية العُثمانيَّة، تأسستْ في بيروت عَرُوس الشَّرِق ورحم المُتَوسِّط، أول كنيسة معمدانيَّة في الشَّرق الأوسط، في 29 أيلول 1895، مُبشّرةً بولادة قرنٍ جديدٍ وعهدٍ جديدٍ يحملان معهما إيماناً جديداً، ولكنَّهُ قديمٌ قدم الكنيسة الرسوليَّة في القرن الأول.
فَمِن هُنا، من شواطِئِنا بدأتِ الرِّحلةُ، رحلة الإيمان الكتابيِّ الرسوليّ العريق، الذي به انطلق المُبشِّرُون الأوائل كَبُولُس الرَّسُول، ليكرِزُوا بالإنجيل، من موانئ الجليل وصُور وصيداء وأنطاكيا وُصُولاً إلى أقطار العالم القديم وأطرافه، ليُغَيِّرُوا بِصَليبِ المسيح المُقَام نُفُوسَ البَشَرِ المائتينَ بالخطيَّة، ووجهَ البشريَّة المُكفَهِرِّ بالظُّلمَةِ الرُّوحيَّة.
وإن غابت نقاوةُ هذا الإيمانِ الرَّسُوليِّ عن شرقنا منذ القرون المبكرة، كونه غرق حيناً في نزاعاتٍ طائفيَّة نابعةٍ من إختلافاتٍ عقائديَّة داخليَّة، أو استَسلَمَ حيناً آخر ليرزح تحت نير الإضطهاد ونيران حُرُوب الإبادة الدينية، إلا أنه لا بُدَّ أن يَعُود هذا الإيمان الرَّسُوليُّ، "المسلَّمُ مرَّةً للقديسين"، ليُعلَنَ ويُعاشَ ويُكرَزَ بهِ في المَهدِ الذي منهُ انطَلَقَت شرارَةُ المسيحيَّةِ الأُولى.
