العلماء هم ورثة الأنبياء, مصابيح الدجى, سرج الظلام, الموقعون عن الملك العلام, الذين قرنت شهادتهم بشهادة الله والملائكة الكرام, هؤلاء هم علماء الآخرة. أما الصنف الآخر وهم علماء الدنيا, وأحبار السوء, الذين يخالف عملهم قولهم, وسرهم علانيتهم, الذين يدعون الناس إلى الإسلام بألسنتهم وينفرونهم عنه بفعالهم, الذين يأمرون بالمعروف ولا يأتونه, وينهون عن المنكر وهم أول مقترفيه, الجبابرة المتكبرون الفجار, رؤيتهم قذى العيون وصحبتهم تقسي القلوب, لا أكثر الله من أمثالهم.
فهذا بحث عن صفات علماء السوؤ وخطرهم على العباد والبلاد. دفعني للكتابة عن ذلك ازدياد عددهم, وتفشي ضررهم, وانخداع كثير من العامة بهم, فوجب نصح الأمة وتحذيرها من هذا الشر المستطير, والداء المحدق الخطير.
