من خلال الصور والهيئات والملامح والأصوات وما يشبه ذلك حاول العلماء الإستدلال على الطباع والأخلاق وما خفى من الصفات في الانسان وقد سمى هذا "بالفراسة" والتى نجد لها أعلاما وضعوا لها الكثير من القواعد. منهم ربط بين صور الإنسان وأنواع الحيوانات ومنهم من استدل وفقا للتذكير والتأنيث وغير ذك ، وفي هذا الكتاب الذي بين يدينا نجد مؤلفين لعلمين في عالم الفراسة هما كتاب "الفراسة" لفيلمون الحكيم، ويلية "جمل أحكام الفراسة" لإبي بكر محمد بن زكريا الرازي ولكل مهما كانت طريقته في تطبيق قواعد استدل ووصل اليها ، وكذلك في تصنيف وترتيب كتابه .. فنجد فيلمون الحكيم يبدا كتابه بحوار له مع بقراط يسترسل فيه فيشرح أسس وقواعد علم الفراسة التى اتبعها ، وقد قسمها إلى ثلاث الفراسة من خلال معرفة الصور وباشباهها من الدواب، معرفة خلقه التذكير والتأنيث ومعرفة الشمائل بحركة الأوصال. أما عن كتاب "الرازي" فقدمه مقسما إلى أبواب، كل منها اختص بدلائل صفة او حركة.. كباب في دلائل الشعر او العين او الظهر وما إلى ذلك مما يساعدنا في فهم اخلاق الناس من أول وهلة.
