قال الشيخُ أبو الحسن، محمَّد بنُ عبدِ الله الكسائي: الحمدُ للَّه الذي أثبتَ الخلْقَ نباتاً، وجمعهم أحياءً، بعد أن كانوا أمواتاً، ونقلّهم من طبقٍ إلى طبق، فجعَلَهم مُضَغاً بعد العَلَق، ثمَّ شقَّ منهم الشُّقوقَ، وخرَّق منهم الخروقَ، وعصَّبَ فيهم العصبَ، وركَّب فيهم العُقَبَ، وجعل العروقَ السَّاقيةَ كالأنهارِ الجارية، وأنشأ فيهم اللحم، وأنبعَ فيهم الدَّم، وجسَّدهم تجسيداً، ومدَّد عليهم الجلد تمديداً، ثمَّ نفَخَ فيهم الرُّوح مبتدأً من اليافوخ، وأوجدَ فيهم الحركاتِ، وأحدثَ فيهم السَّكناتِ، وجعل لهم ضلوعاً متَّسقة، وحشَّاهم بأحشاءٍ متفرِّقة، وخلق فيهم الحواسَّ الخمس، ودفع بها اللِبس، ليقعَ لهم العلمَ بالمحسوسات، والإدراكَ بالملموسات...
هذا كتابٌ جمعتُ فيه المبتدآت من خلْق السَّماوات والأرضين، وخلْق الجنِّ والإنس، وأوائلِ أحوال النَّبيين، على قدْر ما وقعَ لي من أخبارِهم، واتَّصل إليَّ من أنبائهم، بعد أن اجتهدتُ، فتخيَّرت ما قرب منها، وألغيت ما بعُدَ منها، فما وافق منها الحقَّ، فهو الذي قصدنا، وما كان منها على الضَّلال، فإثمُه على من وضعَه، ووِزْره على مَن ابتدعه...
