يتناول هذا الكتاب عملية التعلم التي هي العلم الذي يبحث في اكتشاف القوانين العلمية التي تحكم ظاهرة تغير سلوك الأفراد وعملية التعليم والتي هي عملية مقصودة تستفيد من القوانين التي كشف عنها علم التعلم.
ففي الوحدة الأولى يشير إلى التعلم الصفي والأهداف التعليمية ومن أجل ذلك ثم تعرف التعلم والتعليم الصفي واتجاهاته السلوكية والمصرفية والأهداف التعليمية ومصادرها واستوفى الأهداف والنتاجات السلوكية من حيث تعرف أنواعها وشروطها ثم العلاقة بين التعلم الصفي والأهداف التعليمية.
ويذكر في الوحدة الثانية التعلم الصفي الفعال وخصائصه والعوامل المهمة في التعليم الصفي الفعال كاشتراك المعلم في عمليات في تخطيط المنهاج والتنفيذ واشتراكه في التخطيط للتدريس على المستوى اللامركزية واشتراك كل المعلمين للتخطيط للتدريس وتخطيط المعلم لدروسه.
وفي الوحدة الثالث يستعرض العوامل المؤثرة في التعلم الدائم كالنضج والدافعة والممارسة والفهم والتعليمات والاتجاهات والقيم ومركز الوحدة الرابع على العوامل التي تؤثر في التعليم الصفي كالدافعية والاستعداد والتدريب والتعميم والتدريس والمنهاج الصفي.
وفي الوحدتين الخامسة والسادسة يتعرض إلى المبادئ العامة في تعليم الحقائق والمفاهيم وأنماط التفكير وتخطيط الدروس الصفية ويعالج في الوحدة السابعة دور الوسائل التعليمية في التعليم الصفي وذلك يتمثل في الإدراك الحسي والفهم والتفكير والمهارات والاتجاهات والقيم والنشاط الذاتي والفروق الفردية.
