تشكل هذه المذكرات مصدراً له أهميته الخاصة في تاريخ مصر المعاصر وثورتها القومية الشعبية العارمة ضد الاحتلال البريطاني في عام 1919 ، وتنبع أهميتها من أنها رصدت تطورات الثورة وتفاصيل وقائعها وأحداثها من جانب الشعب في القاهرة والأقاليم مما لا ينشر عادة في البلاغات الرسمية أو التقارير الإدارية أو حتى الصحف المعاصرة، ولا نحسب أن هناك دراسة عملية تناولت أحداث هذه الثورة دون أن يطلع صاحبها على هذه المذكرات في صحيفة البلاغ، وتضئ بشكل مفصل ودقيق دور الأزهر وعلمائه وطلابه في أحداث الثورة الوطنية، على نحو لم نعهده في مصادر هذه الثورة. ربما لأن الكاتب كان في قلب الأحداث كواحد من علماء الأزهر، وكيف كانوا على إدراك ووعي سياسي كبير، وقد عالج الشيخ النجار قصة إضراب الموظفين في شهر إبريل 1919 بالتفصيل كما تم تدبيره وما هي نتائجه، وموقف السلطات العسكرية البريطانية.
كما تضمنت المذكرات كذلك متابعة دءوبة ومفصلة لمظاهرات طلاب المدارس العامة والعليا، والتضحيات التي قدمها الشباب من شهداء وجرجى على نحو أقض مضاجع الإنجليز وكشف عن بربريتهم وتحضرهم!! كذلك قدمت المذكرات تسجيلاً مستفيضاً متفرداً عن مظاهرة النساء المصريات الشهيرة التي حدثت في 16 مارس، وسوف يجد المعنيون بالكتابة عن الوحدة الوطنية مادة غزيرة عن تعاون المصريين جميعاً في مواجهة وحشية الإحتلال، وكيف فطنت القيادات الإسلامية والمسيحية لمحاولات الإنجليز إثارة فتنة طائفية، مما كشف معدن الشعب الحقيقي في اللحظات الحاسمة من تاريخه.
