قام السرد الرمزى بمهمة ذات أبعاد إصلاحية، بل وربما جمالية، فقد أتاح عالم الرموز الحيوانية للمؤلف التمتع بقدر كبير من حرية التعبير، وأباح له الاجتراء بالنقد الواضح والصريح علانية، ليلقى من جعبته سهاماً صائبة إلى طبقة الحكام، تمثلت فى مخاطبات سردية شديدة الأثر والتأثير معاً على كل من يعمل فى المجال السياسى أو يلتحق بخدمة ولاة الأمر، ليرتدعوا عما هم عليه قبل فوات الأوان.
فلم يقصد السارد أن يسرد طرائف عجيبة وحكايات مسلية غريبة يفاكه بها الخلفاء، ويتقرب بها إلى طبقة الظرفاء فحسب، بل أتى بها فى هذا الشكل لتكون ستاراً أو قناعاً شفافاً، وما الحيوان إلا تمويه، يتمكن المؤلف عن طريقه من غرس القيم، وتعزيز الهمم، وتعليم أصول الحكم، ونصيحة السلطان، بالتأكيد على الواجبات السياسية الواجب فعلها من جانب الحاكم والرعية، وبيان القواعد السلوكية الواجب اتباعها فى سياسة الدولة، وتدبير شئون الرعية، من أجل تحسين السلوك، وتهذيب الأخلاق، عارضاً كل ما أراده من طريق غير مباشر هو السرد الرمزى ليكشف لا، بل ليفضح، المساوئ السياسية السائدة، والأمراض الاجتماعية والأخلاقية المتفشية آنذاك، فعرى رموزه الحيوانية الزائفة، كاشفاً بذلك عن المنظومة السياسية الحقيقية، وهكذا استطاع المؤلف أن يسوق كل ما أراده فى صورة أدبية، رمزية، سردية، أخاذة، بعيدة عن أسلوب المباشرة، فهو يوحى عن طريق السرد إلى ما يردي أن يقول ويدل بفعل الحيوان عما يريد امتثاله وفعله من جانب الإنسان، ربما لكون هذا القالب السردى الرمزى أخف وطأة من ثقل الموعظة والتوجيه على النفس البشرية.
