يتضمن الكتاب دراسة الفن القصصى، الذى أنتجه –باللغة العربية- الأدباء العرب، الذين استوطنوا الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، بعد أن هاجروا من بلاد الشام، وتناولت الدراسة: قسم القصة القصيرة، وقسم الرواية. تنوعت اتجاهات القصة القصيرة، فتداخلت الواقعية مع الرومانسية، وكان لذلك أثره فى الأسلوب، والسمات الفنية. ورغم التأثر بالتيارات الأوروبية، فإن القصة لم تفقد هويتها وبيئتها العربيتين، ويضم قسم (الرواية) ثلاثة أبواب: الرؤية الموضوعية، والرؤية الفنية، واتجاهات الرواية. بلور الروائيون رؤيتهم وأفكارهم، فى شكل فنى، يمتزج فيه الفكر بالواقع، والواقع بما وراء الواقع فى إطار رؤية حضارية شرقية.
