وهنا يتبادر إلى الذهن سؤال: ما المدة الزمنية المعقولة التي يمكن للمرء الخوض فيها ويعتبرها الحدود الآمنة لتوقع أحداثها، تولى عالم الفيزياء الشهير فريمان ديسون الإجابة على ذلك عندما تساءل إلى متى تظل الأرض صالحة لسكنى الكائنات؟ والإجابة أنها ستظل صالحة للسكنى إلى أن يأتي زمن يستهلك فيه الوقود النووي للشمس وكافة النجوم الأخرى ومع ذلك يمكن للكائنات الاستمرار في الحياة حتى يأتي وقت تتبخر فيه الفجوات السوداء في انفجار كبير جداً بحيث يستحيل تكوين نجوم أخرى.
