ابن سينا هو أبو علي الحسين بن عبد الله بن الحسن بن علي بن سينا، عالم وطبيب مسلم من بخارى، اشتهر بالطب والفلسفة واشتغل بهما.
ولد في قرية أفشنة بالقرب من بخارى (في أوزبكستان حالياً) من أب من مدينة بلخ (في أفغانستان حالياً) وأم قروية.
ولد سنة 370 هـ (980م) وتوفي في مدينة همدان (في إيران حاليا) سنة 427 هـ (1037م).
عُرف باسم الشيخ الرئيس وسماه الغربيون بأمير الأطباء وأبو الطب الحديث في العصور الوسطى.
وقد ألّف 200 كتاب في مواضيع مختلفة، العديد منها يركّز على الفلسفة والطب.
ويعد ابن سينا من أول من كتب عن الطبّ في العالم ولقد اتبع نهج أو أسلوب أبقراط وجالينوس.
وأشهر أعماله كتاب القانون في الطب الذي ظل لسبعة قرون متوالية المرجع الرئيسي في علم الطب، وبقي كتابه (القانون في الطب) العمدة في تعليم هذا الفنِّ حتى أواسط القرن السابع عشر في جامعات أوربا ويُعد ابن سينا أوَّل من وصف التهاب السَّحايا الأوَّليِّ وصفًا صحيحًا، ووصف أسباب اليرقان ، ووصف أعراض حصى المثانة، وانتبه إلى أثر المعالجة النفسانية في الشفاء .

يقدم هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الرسائل التى تدرس وتشرح العديد من الموضوعات في الطبيعة مثل الأشياء الثابتة وغير الثابتة وتعريف لماهيتها وقوانينها التى تحكمها أيضا يتناول الحديث في الأجرام العلوية تارة وأخرى يتحدث عن القوى الانسانية وإدراكاتها. كما تحدث عن الحدود في الرسم والعقل والنفس والعديد من الموضوعات الأخرى مثل إثبات النبوات وتأويل رموزها. إجتمعت كل تلك الموضوعات المختلفة تحت لواء هذا الكتاب ألفه ووضعه الشيخ الرئيس أبي على الحسين بن عبد الله بن سينا ولد في قرية من ضياع تجاري يقال لها حريش . أشتغل بالعلوم وحصل الفنون وأتقن القرآن الكريم في سن العاشرة وحفظ أشياء من أصول الدين والحساب والهندسة والجبر ثم درس المنطق والطب وأتقن العديد من العلوم الآداب حتى أنه يقال عنه أنه لم يتم ليلة بكاملها ولم يقضي نهاره إلا في المطالعة. حياة طويلة من الدراسة والبحث عن العلم والرغبة فيه لا تنطفأ ثم ذكر نبذه عنه في مقدمة الكتاب أما عن نهاية الكتاب فيوجد قصة مترجمة عن اليونيانية حنين بن أسحاق تسمى سلامان وأبسال هذا هو ما يحتويه كتابنا بإختصار وما حوى كان أكثر.
