شهد العقدان الأول والثاني من القرن الخامس عشر الهجري، غزارة في الإنتاج السيري لأدبائنا، تجاوز العشرين عملاً، تأتي سيرة الأديب المديني عزيز ضياء، (حياتي مع الجوع والحب والحرب) من أهمها – لأسباب تناولناها بالتفصيل في هذا الكتاب – وزامن ذلك وأعقبه، اهتمام بهذا الفن، واتساع في دائرة مقروئيه، ووعي بقيمته الإبداعية والفكرية، وامتلاك نسبي لأدواته ومقوماته الفنية. وتخفّف من الشعور بصعوبة الكتابة عن الذات، أو كتابتها، وتجاوز لنمط الكتابات الأدبية الشعرية والسردية السائدة، واحتكارها مشهد الكتابة الفنية. فصدرت أعمال سيرية لنفر من أدبائنا، أسهم أدباء المدينة المنورة بنصيب وافر منها.
ويتناول هذا الكتاب جلّ هذه الأعمال، ويعرض لبدايات ومراحل كتابة هؤلاء الكتّاب لسيرهم الذاتية، والمراحل الزمنية التي عرضوا لها. والقضايا والموضوعات التي حفلت بها سيرهم، وقراءاتهم لها، وما انعكس من ظروفها وآثارها على بعضهم.
كما يتناول العناصر الفنية لنص السيرة الذاتية لدى الكتّاب المدينيين، ودوافع كتابتهم لسيرهم، وشخصياتهم من خلالها، والخصائص الجمالية، والتمايزات بينهم في مستويات الأداء الفني. كما يتناول مدى حضور الحاضن المكاني / المدينة المنورة في تلك السّير، وطرائق مقاربة الكتّاب لمكوناته الحضارية، والدينية، والجمالية، ومظاهره الإجتماعية والثقافية. ويقف على تناولهم لغيره من الأماكن التي جابوها، وسجّلوا مرائيهم وأرائهم فيها في سيرهم، وما إلى ذلك من قضايا ورؤى.
