بيّن حال الترجمة في الوطن العربي واستند تقرير التنمية الإنسانية العربية للعام 2003 الذي أصدره برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي والصندوق العربي للإنماء الاقتصادي والاجتماعي على كتابه "الترجمة في العالم العربي، الواقع والتحدي" كأحد المصادر المهمة للمعلومات في فقرة الترجمة.

الحياة الإجتماعية نهر دافق متغير أبداً، متجدد الإحتياجات.. والتطور الحضارى عملية إنسانية إجتماعية تاريخية أداتها الفعل الإنسانى الإجتماعى النشط، وثمرتها قدرات جديدة ومراجعة الموروث، وغرس ثقافة جديدة قرينة إبداع البناء الحضارى، ويكون هذا الجهد الإبداعى هو التجسيد الحق لإزدهار الهوية الإجتماعية.
والكتاب محاولة اجتهادية من زوايا عدة لإستكشاف بعص مظاهر وتجليات أزمة الفكر الإجتماعى العربى واستجلاء أسبابها، ويؤكد أن الإنسان - المجتمع العربى مغترب بفكرهُ فى الزمان حين يأتى صدى لسلطان التقليد فى الماضى أو فى المكان صدى لسطوة الغرب، ويعيش الإنسان فى الحالين عاطلاً عن إبداع فكر جديد.
كما يوضح أن الفكر رهن الفعل الإبداعى لإنتاج الوجود الإجتماعى على مستوى حضارة العصر فى إطار المنافسة، ويؤكد أن أقتصاد الريع وثقافته هما علة الأزمة وأن السلطة السياسية أحد تجلياتها على مدة القرون.
ويتحمل المثقفون أداة السلطة وزر الغربة والتخلف إذ حصروا دورهم فى أن يكون لسانا لها، ورصدوا جهدهم ضريبة التقرب إليها حفاظاً على الوضع القائم الذى توحدوا معه.
ولهذا يرى الكتاب من خلال زوايا النظر المتعددة أن جوهر القضية لإنتاج فكر عربى جديد هو إنجاز تحول حضارى يشمل جميع أنشطة الحياة ويحقق قطيعة مع فعل وفكر الماضى ويكون بجهدنا الابداعى امتداداً حضارياً عصرياً أصيلاً يولد فكراً أصيلاً جديداً.
