بحث العلماء تركيب الجملة في علم النحو، وبحثوا دلالتها في علاقتها بما جاورها في النص، وهذا من اختصاص علم البلاغة الذي يعالج الألفاظ والمعاني والروابط النصية، وبعض الباحثين المعاصرين بحثوا عن الدراسات النصية في أعمال النحاة، فبادروا باتهامهم بأنهم قصروا فيها، وزعموا أن الدراسات العربية القديمة لم تعالج النصوص معالجة عامة في ضوء العلاقات التي تربط بين أجزاء النص، وأنهم لم يتجاوزوا الجملة إلى العلاقات التي تربطها بالنص الكلي الذي تمثل لبنة فيه، وهذا خطأ آخر سقطوا فيه، لأن الجمل من اختصاص علم النحو الذي يدرس عناصر الجملة والعلاقات بينها، وعلم البلاغة يدرس العلاقات النصية التي تجمع بين الجمل في خطاب واحد أو نص واحد، فعلم اللغة النصي في أعمال القدماء في الدراسات البلاغية وليس في أعمال النحاة، فالبلاغيون بحثوا عن الوظائف النحوية في النصوص وأثرها في المعنى.. وكتابنا –الربط فى اللفظ والمعنى، دراسة تطبيقية للتعرف على أسرار النص في ضوء الدراسات النصية.
