لقد وجد أن عدداً كبيراً من المنتجات الجديدة للصناعات الكيميائية تجد لها تطيبقات في كافة حقول الهندسة، وإن استعمالها اعتمد غالباً على خواصها الكيميائية أكثر من خواصها الكيميائية أكثر من خواصها الفيزيائية، وفى كل عام ينمو ويكبر دور الكيمياء والمنتجات الكيميائية في كل فرع من الفروع الهندسية، حيث يوجد في الصناعة ما يقرب من ثلاثمائة منتجاً كيميائياً.
ولقد وجد أن أي تطور حقيقي في صناعة الطائرات يعتمد على قوة التعاون بين الكيميائي والمهندس، ومن بين المواد التى تقدمها الصناعات الكيميائية للطرق العامة الحديثة الأنابيب والأشرطة والعواكس البلاستيكية والمطاط والأسلفت ومبيدات الحشرات والأعشاب والراتينجات، كما يجب علي المهندس المدنى أن يكون ملماً بالمبادئ الأولية للتآكل الكهروكيميائي.
ويتضح الهدف من إعداد هذا الكتاب (مبادئ الكيمياء الهندسية)، هو توضيح التطبيقات العملية لبعض الأسس والحقائق الكيميائية بالنسبة لفروع الهندسة الميكانيكية وهندسة البترول والمناجم وهندسة الرى. كما يقدم الصفات الكيميائية للمواد القديمة والحديثة التى يستعملها المهندس، ونسأل الله العلى القدير أن نكون قد وفقنا إلى تقديم مرجع باللغة العربية وهو "مبادئ الكيمياء الهندسية" إلى المكتبة العربية، وأن يحقق الفائدة المرجوة منه.
