الغصن الذهبي كتاب رائد في مجاله، فهو يبحث في أصول فكرة السحر وأنواعه ويضرب الأمثلة الكثيرة من مشاهدات المؤلف ومن علمه الفياض والكتاب الكامل ضخم لا يتاح نشره أو إعادة نشره إلا على أضيق نطاق، لذلك فقد قرر المؤلف نفسه اختصاره في جزئين وقام الدكتور أحمد أبو زيد بترجمة أجزاء منه والاشراف على ترجمة الاجزاء الاخرى فاتاح بذلك ذخرا من المعلومات لقراء العربية وهو جدير بكل التكريم والاعزاز.
ونفخر في هذا المقام بان نقدم هذا الجزء الاول كاملا بحواشية حتى يصبح اللبنة الأولى في صرح هذا العلم الذي يتاح لأول مرة على نطاق جمهور القراء في كل مكان فهو مفيد للمتخصص مثلما هو مفيد للقارئ العادي وهو يمثل منهجا معينا في تناول موضوع السحر، قد يختلف المتخصصون حوله وقد يتفقون ولكن المعلومات الكثيرة المتدفقة هى المادة المقصود ايصالها للقارئ وربما كان له ايضا من الاحكام ما يختلف عن احكام المؤلف وما قد يتفق معه.
