تعتبر دراسات الجدوى الاقتصادية وتقييم المشروعات الاستثمارية الركيزة الأساسية التى يعتمد عليها المستثمرون فى اتخاذ قرارات الاستثمار ومن ثم فانها تحظى بأهمية قصوى فى أعمال البنوك وشركات الاستثمار والمؤسسات الحكومية المسئولة عن منح تراخيص انشاء المشروعات والتى تهتم بمعرفة الآثار الايجابية التى يمكن أن تترتب على الاستثمار فى مشروع معين بالنسبة للمجتمع أو الاقتصاد القومى جنبا الى جنب مع الربحية الاقتصادية أو المادية للمشروع ولكى تكون دراسات الجدول الاقتصادية ذات دلالة وفعالية أو المادية للمشروع ولكى تكون دراسات الجدوى الاقتصادية ذات دلاله وفعالية فى اتخاذ القرارات فانها يجب أن تكون دراسات شاملة لكافة الجوانب المبدئية والتفصيلية بحيث تشمل دراسات ذات طبيعة قانوينة وبيئية ودراسات ذات طبيعة تسويقية تهتم بحساب حجم الطلب المتوفع على السلع التى سوف ينتجها المشروع أو عدد العملاء الذين يتوقع أن يكون لهم معاملات مع المشروع وتحقيق ايرادات مناسبة وتضمن عائدا استثماريا مجزيا وذلك بالاضافة الى دراسات ذات طبيعة فنية أو هندسية تعتمد على معرفة افضل المواقع أو الأماكن الجغرافية التى يمكن انشاء المشروع عليها وحجم المشروع وحجم الانتاج وحجم العمليات الانتاجية وتقدير احتياجات المشروع من المواد الخام ومستلزمات الانتاج ومن الآلات والمعدات والأجهزة ومستوى التكنولوجيا المطبق فى نفيذ أعمال المشروع وكذلك تحديد احتباجات المشروع الاستثمارى من الأيدى العاملة من مختلف التخصصات اللازمة لأعمال المشروع فى المستقبل خلال عمره افترااضى وذلك فصلا عن تحديد افضل تخطيط داخلى للمشروع يتناسب مع المساحة الكلية المخصصة لأنشطة الانتاج والعمليات والإدارة والمخازن والطرق الداخلية وأماكن استقبال العملاء وأماكن راحة العاملين وغيرها من الجوانب ذات الطبيعة الانشائية والتى يحددها المتخصصون الفنيون . وهذا الكتاب يدرس موضوع الجدوى الاقتصادية وتقييم المشروعات كأحد العلوم التجارية بصفة عامة والعلوم الاقتصادية بصفة خاصة ليكون مرجعا علميا مساعدا فى الحياة العملية لمن يعملون فى إعداد أو فحص دراسات الجدوى الاقتصادية وتقييم المشروعات
