لا يكاد يوجد ركن فى الضمير المصرى المعاصر لم يشارك فى صياغته هذا الرجل! فكل أداة تشكل الرأى العام، والذوق العام، كان له دور فى تطويرها، وتوجيهها، وتربية الذين يستخدمونها، وهو قد بدأ حياته فنانا "تشكيليا" يخاطب الناس بالريشة والألوان. لكنه لم يلبث أن اقتحم عالم الصحافة، والقلم، والسينما، والاذاعة. أنجب فى كل من هذه العوالم زحاما من التلاميذ، ومعظم هؤلاء التلاميذ هم الذين يقودون الآن عقل الأمة المصرية، أو على الأقل يشاركون فى قيادته. وإذا كانت أسماء بعضهم الان ألمع كثيرا من اسمه، فلأنه كا مشغولا بهم عن نفسه، وكانت قضيته -ومتعته الكبرى- أن يؤهلهم للنجومية والقيادة، ولهذا فإن تقييم حسن فؤاد، أو مجرد التعريف به، مشكلة. فهو ليس مثل بيكاسو، أو توفيق الحكيم، أو الأمام الغزالى، شخصية تفسرها الأعمال التى تركها، إنما هو نهر لا يمكن تقييمه، وفهمه، الا إذا درسنا -مع أعماله- أعمال الذين نبتوا فى تربته، وروتهم مياهه المتجددة.
وسيفاجأ القارئ فى نهاية هذا الكتاب بأسماء هؤلاء الذين نبتوا فى تربة حسن فؤاد، وارتووا من نهره، فيعضهم من غلاة اليمين وبعضهم من غلاة اليسار. ونصفهم عدو لدود للنصف الآخر. ولم يسبق أن اتفقوا فى حياتهم على شئ أو جمع بينهم شئ.. إلا الدين الذى فى أعناقهم لحسن فؤاد!
لكننا -لحسن الحظ- لا نحتاج إلى دراسة كا ما أنبته النهر لكى نفهم النهر نفسه. فقد أنجب حسن فؤاد، من بين ما أنجب، مجلة تحمل اسمه.. وتمثل أصدق تمثيل فكره وطبيعته وشخصيته. وعلى صفحاتها يمكن أن نراه، ونتعرف عليه. مجلة اسمها "الغد" أصدرها وعمره 25 سنة، وأغلقتها الدولة. ثم أصدرها وعمره 35 سنة، وأغلقتها الدولة. ثم أصدرها قبل أن يرحل عن العالم بشهور، ورحل عن العالم وهى لم تغلق بعد، ولم يكن إصرار حسن فؤاد على إصدار الغد، وتكرار إصدارها، صدفة. فقد كانت هذه المجلة هى النسخة المكتوبة منه.
