يُعَدّ هذا الكتاب مِنْ كُتُبِ الفُرُوعِ في الفقه الشافعي، اعتمد فيه مؤلِّفُه النقل من كلام الجمهور، والإتيان في ذلك بالشيء المقدور، وعُمدتُه في ذلك: التحفة، وفتح الجواد شرح الإرشاد، والنهاية، وشرح الروض، وشرح المنهج، وحواشي ابن قاسم، وحواشي الشبراملسي، وحواشي البجيرمي، وغير ذلك.
وهو كتابٌ أشرقت في سماء التحقيق نجوم آياته، وبزغَتْ في أُفُقِ إيضاح المُشْكِلَاتِ بليغُ عباراته، كشَفَ غُيومَ المُعضِلات بلفظٍ رائعٍ رائق، وانتقى من النقول كل مفيدٍ فائق، فأضحى برشاقة عباراته عنواناً للسهل الممتنع، وبتحقيق مسائله دليلاً على الفضل المرتفع. وقد انتهى مؤلٍّفُه من جمعه سنة 1298ﻫ، ومن تحريره سنة 1300ﻫ .وقد تَحَلَّى هامشُه بكتاب (فتح المعين بشرح قرة العين بمهمات الدين) لزين الدين أحمد بن عبد العزيز المَلِّيباري الشافعي (ت: 987ﻫ).
والمُؤلِّفُ هو: أبو بكر عثمان بن محمد شطا البكري الدِّمياطي الشافعي (1266-1310ﻫ)، فقيهٌ متصوف مصري نزيل مكة.
