هذا الكتاب هو دراسة شاملة للتأثيرات الفنية الوافدة على فنون مصر التطبيقية وزخارف عمائرها في الفترة الممتدة منذ بداية الفتح الإسلامي حتى نهاية العصر الفاطمي، وقد استهله الباحث بدراسة وافية ومتعمقة لعلاقات مصر المتشعبة مع بقاع وأقطار العالم القديم في آسيا: (الجزيرة العربية، الشام، العراق، أرمنية، إيران، التركستان، السند والهند، الصين) وأفريقيا: ( شمال أفريقيا، وأفريقيا السوداء) وأوروبا: (شمالاً وجنوباً، وشرقاً وغرباً) موضحاً دور هذه العلاقات في نقل التاثيرات الفنية الوافدة، وأردف ذلك بدراسة شاملة للتاثيرات الفنية الوافدة على فنون مصر التطبيقية، سواء أكانت زخرفاص وفخاراً، أم خشباً وعاجاً وعظماً، حجراً وجصاً ورخاماً، زجاجاً وبلوراً صخرياً، معادن وحلياً، نسيجاً وأبسطة. ثم تناول بعد ذلك التأثيرات الفنية التي ظهرت على زخارف العمائر سواء اكانت عمائر مدنية أم حربية ودينية، وأختتم الدراسة بتحليل لبعض العناصر الزخرفية الوافدة ومنها الزخارف النباتية، والهندسية، هذا بالإضافة إلى اشكال الكائنات الحية وما تضمنته الكتابات من زخارف.
