وقد اهتم المؤلف بشرح القوالب والأشكال الموسيقية الآلية والغنائية من تراث الموسيقى العربية حتى يمكن من خلال الإستماع الجيد لتلك المؤلفات تنمية القدرة على الإستمتاع بهذا الفن العربى الأصيل. وقد حاولت من خلال المحتوى العلمى لهذا الكتاب تغطية سريعة لما ورد فيه من العصور التاريخية أو الصيغ الموسيقية دون إسهاب، وغنى عن الذكر أن كل ما ورد بهذا الكتاب من معارف ومعلومات سبق أن كتب ونشر عنه مؤلفات عديدة يمكن لمن يبغى الإستزادة الرجوع إليها.
