لا يملك أي منصف من العاملين في حقل الكتابة التاريخية سوى التسليم بالقيمة العلمية لذلك المؤلَّف الذي بين يدي القارئ ويصدر هذا التسليم من مجموعة من الحقائق التي تعترض نفسها مع تقليب صفحاته. فالكتاب، متابعة أمنية "العلاقات الإنجليزية-المغربية" على مسطح زمني واسع زاد عن القرون الثلاثة، والكتاب اعتمد على الوثائق الأصيلة، وبالذات الإنجليزية مما يضفي عليه المسحة الأكاديمية، إذ عكف صاحب الكتاب على الأرشيف حيث استخرج منه مادة علمية وفيرة ضمنها كتابه، وهو فيما فعل قد وضع تلك المادة قيد استخدام الباحثين، ثم إنه من خلال ما فعل أيضاً قد أخذ بأيدي الراغبين في الاستزادة من دراسة الموضوع بما تضمنته هوامشه وببليوجرافيته من إشارات وفيرة إلى الوثائق التي استخدمها، وهي وثاق تضم أشياء أخرى كثيرة غير التي سجلها المؤلف.
من ناحية أخرى، فقد أدى المؤلف ب.ج.روجرز خدمة هامة للمشتغلين في حقل الكتابة التاريخية، ذلك أنه نجح، من خلال عقلية منظمة، في استخراج ما أمكنه العثور عليه من مادة علمية أصيلة في مئات الملفات التي عاد إليها، ثم إنه استطاع ترتيب تلك المادة بشكل يغلب عليه الطابع الحولي، وهو شكل من أشكال الكتابة التاريخية، وهو أدى بهذا دوراً من حيث تيسير مهمة الباحثين في الموضوع نفسه بالعثور على ما يجدّون في البحث عنه. والكاتب إلى ذلك قد ضبط كثيراً من الوقائع والسنوات التي أعوزها الضبط من قبل، حتى في كتابات أصدرها متخصصون من هذا الموضوع، موضوع العلاقات الإنجليزية-المغربية من أجل تلك المعطيات ككل أقدم المترجم على ترجمة الكتاب إلى العربية، وبالنظر إلى ما شاب الكتاب من بعض وجوه القصور، قام المترجم بتخصيص دراسة نقدية للتنبيه إلى تلك الوجوه ثم لعلاجها في حدود إمكانياته المتاحة.
