تركا القلعة ونزلا إلى الشاطئ، ولمّا وصلا حمل كلٌّ منهما حذاءه ومشيا حافييْن، وتجرّأ فأخذ يدها بسهولةٍ وعفويّة، فنظرت إليه بطرْف عينها ثمَّ استدارت وأسدلت رموشها على ماضيها. صارحها بحبّه الذي لم يفارقه، ثمَّ لامها وعاتبها، وسامحها واستغفرها عندما رأى حزنها، وفي لحظةٍ جاش البحر بأمواجه فهاج واضطرب، وجاشت هي بدموعها ففاضت غزيرةً، كأنّما كانت مدفونةً في منبعٍ محكم الإغلاق وانفجر. وعرفت الآن، وفقط الآن، عرفت لماذا كانت تريد المجيء إلى القلعة معه، كان لا بدَّ أن تحكيَ له هفوة مراهقةٍ بريئةٍ غدر بها الزمان في لحظة ضعفٍ، كان يجب أن تطلقَ هذا الغراب الذي لا يزال ينعق في صدرها ويثقل كاهلها، كان يجب أن تطويَ هذه الصفحة الأليمة من حياتها، وإلى الأبد، فلن تكون مريم إن جبُنت الآن.
