نقدّم للقارئ العربي كتاباً جديداً لرحّالة شهير ارتبط اسمه بمدينة صنعاء في القرن التاسع عشر، ألا وهو الإيطالي رِنزو مانزوني، الذي تميّزت سيرة حياته بنزوعه الجريء إلى التّرحال في مجاهل البلاد وإقتحام المخاطر، وأشهر رحلاته بالطبع كانت في اليَمَن، إذ قام بثلاث رحلات على إمتداد ثلاث سنين بين 1877- 1880 توجّه في الأولى بينها من عَدَن إلى صنعاء، ومن خلال إقامته الطويلة هناك وحرّيّة الحركة التي حظي بها، تمكّن من دراسة طبوغرافيّتها ومُجتمعها بشكل وافٍ وتام.
يعدّ كتاب مانزوني عملاً أصيلاً في فنّ "أدب الرّحلة" قدّم فيه رواية حيّة تفاعليّة لأحداث ممتعة يغلب عليها أسلوب الرّواية الشخصيّة ولغة سلسلة أنيقة، فتعامل الرّجل بعاطفته الإيطاليّة الحارّة المعهودة مع النّاس الذين قابلهم أو رافقهم، سواء كانوا من العامّة أو الأعيان المحلّيين أو الضبّاط والقضاة الأتراك، ووصف كلّ ما رآه بعين الشّاهد الدّقيق المُنصف، فأفادنا بتقديم صورة جميلة تنبض بالحياة لليَمَن العزيز على قلب كلّ عربي، في محافظات لَحج والضّالع وإبّ وذَمار وصنعاء، ورسم لعاصمة اليَمَن العريقة لوحة بارعة بهيّة تجعل القارئ يحسّ وكأنه يعيش فعلاً في صنعاء قبل قرن وثلث قرن من الزّمان.
