لم تحظ الفنون التشكيلية فى بلادنا العربية , بمثل ما حظيت به الفنون الأخرى من اهتمام وسائل الإعلام بها وتسليط الأضواء عليها , وما يتبع ذلك من ذيوعها وانتشارها وشهرة فنانيها , مع أن الباحث فى أصول الحضارات فى العالم يجد أن الفنون الجميلة , رسما أو نحتا أو عمارة , هى الأسبق والأخلد والأرقى على مر العصور , من أى فكر إنساني آخر , فلولا تلك الإبداعات التشكيلية فى المتاحف وعلى الآثار وجدران المعابد , لما عرفنا التاريخ من أصله , ولما وقفنا على أسرار الحضارة ومسيرة التطور فى شتى مراحل الإنسان على كوكب الأرض.
وكما قال أحد الفلاسفة ( إذا أنا زرت بلدا ما واطلعت على آثاره ومتاحفه , فمن السهل على أن أدلكم على الإمكانات الحضارية والفكرية الكامنة فى نفوس أهل ذلك البلد , وما يحظون به من العراقة والأصالة ومقومات التحضر ).
وإذا كان العلم , وليد حاجات الإنسان الضرورية , يخضع لمقاييس العقل وقوانين المنطق والحساب , فإن الفن من الناحية الأخرى هو وليد الانفعال , وتألق البصائر , وثورة العواطف , ينطلق من نفوس الفنانين المبدعين فى عفوية وسلاسة , بشحنة وجدانية ملهمة.
وفى عالم اليوم نجد أن الفن قاسم مشترك أعظم , يهب لمساته الواعية لكل مرفق من مرافق حياتنا , فمنه ما هو وجداني خالص يؤدي وظيفة جمالية بحتة , ومنه ما هو تطبيقى نافع يؤدى مهمة عملية مطلوبة , ولكنه فى النهاية فن جميل يضفى على معيشتنا الرقة والبهجة والذوق الرفيع , وينعكس بالتالى على سلوكياتنا فينمى فى نفوسنا الشعور بالتهذب , والتذوق الفنى , والتمتع بأسباب الجمال.
