يقول راجى الغفران [محمد بن على الصبان]، أحسن الله عمله وبلغه فى الدارين أمله: لما منَ المولى اللطيف على هذا العبد الضعيف بقراءة الشرح الصغير على السلم، لشيخنا الرحلة الأستاذ الملوى على مؤلفه، عليه رضوان الرب الأكرم، وبإقرائى ذلك الكتاب، لجمَ غفير من مهرة الطلاب، وتحمل منها مايسره الله تعالى من تقريرات شريفة، وتحقيقات بديعة منيفة، ونكات ألمعية، ودقائق لوذعية، نظمتها فى سلك التصنيف، وجعلتها حاشية على هذا الشرح المنيف، فجاءت بحمد الله تسر الناظرين يشهد برفعة مكانها وعلو شأنها أذكياء المحصلين، وبرزت بعون الله عز وجل شمساً فى سماء التحقيق، سمية الجناب عن أن يكون لها على الشرح المذكور شقيق.
واعلم أنى وقفت لهذا الشرح على حاشيتين : الأولى الحاشية المنسوبة للعلامة الكبير الشهير عطية الأجهورى رحمه الله تعالى، وأصلها تقريرات كتبها بعض أفاضل إخواننا على نسخته من الشرح والثانية حاشية أخينا الفاضل المتقن الشيخ أحمد بن يونس الخليفى وفقنى الله واياه والمسلمين.
