تعتبر الميكانيكا الهندسية بفرعيها الاستاتيكا والديناميكا أحد العلوم الهندسية الأساسية لكافة الفروع الهندسية، حيث ترتكز معظم المساقات الهندسية اللاحقة على المبادئ والمفاهيم الأساسية التي تعطى ضمن هذين المساقين، ويأتي هذا الكتاب كجزء أول من علوم الميكانيكا الهندسية والذي يعرض لموضوع الاستاتيكا وهو العلم الذي يبحث في الاتزان الساكن للأجسام الجاسئة (الصلدة) ويعرض لشروط هذا الاتزان تحت تأثير القوى المختلفة المؤثرة على هذه الأجسام.
ويقع الكتاب في ثمانية أبواب رئيسية. يتناول الباب الأول منها مقدمة لعلم الميكانيكا الهندسية والمبادئ الأساسية لهذا العلم. ويعرض الباب الثاني لتعريف القوة ونظم القوى حيث يتطرق إلى أنواع القوة المختلفة التي يمكن أن تؤثر على الأجسام. أما الباب الثالث فيسلط الضوء على الفرض الأساسي للاستاتيكا. ويتناول الباب الرابع إلى طرق تحليل هذه المنشآت وشروط الاتزان في سبيل الوصول إلى تصميم آمن لها. يعرض الباب الخامس لموضوع مراكز الثقل والمراكز الهندسية للخطوط والمساحات والحجوم وكذلك الأجسام. أما الباب السادس فيعرض لدراسة نوع من المنشآت الخاصة بالهندسة المدنية وهي العتبات أو الجيزان من حيث تصنيفها والقوى الداخلية المؤثرة عليها. ويعرض الباب السابع من الكتاب لموضوع عزم القصور الذاتي وهي خاصية من خصائص المقاطع أو الأشكال المستخدمة المختلفة. أما الباب الثامن فيتطرق إلى موضوع الاحتكاك. كما ويحتوي الكتاب على ملاحق هامة ومفيدة للطلبة والمهندسين على حد سواء
