هذا الكتاب دراسة تاريخية أكاديمية موثقة تستجلى تاريخ السودان خلال الحكم الثنائى، وتبين كيف نشأت علاقات طبيعية بين سكان السودان ومصر بعد عقد الإتفاقية الثنائية، علاقات قامت على الجوار والنيل والعروبة والمصالح المشتركة بما فيها التخلص من السيطرة البريطانية، فالتقى المصريون والسودانيون فى الجيش ودواوين الحكومة والأزهر الشريف... إلخ، وكانت ميزانية البلدين واحدة. كذلك تتحدث الدراسة تفصيلياً عن الحركة الوطنية السودانية، ونشأة جمعية اللواء الأبيض، والدور الوطنى لعلى عبد اللطيف وزين العابدين عبد التام. ورصدت الدراسة مقتل سيرلى ستاك عام1924 ورد فعل بريطانيا لذلك، حيث ضربت الحركة الوطنية فى مصر والسودان، وتعالج الدراسة المتغيرات الإقتصادية والإجتماعية والإدارية والتعليمية.
