ديوان أبي ماضي الذي هو بين يدي القارئ ليس كثير من الروائيين فهو يتألق بدراسة وتقديم إلى جانب قصائده أبي ماضي. الدراسة للشاعر زهير ميرزا والتي تحول خيوط الشوق بين الشاعر وبين ديوان أبي ماضي. لقد كلف الشاعر ميرزا بإيليا أبي ماضي وأحبه، وسار في طريق صوره ومعانيه، وساقه هذا الحب إلى أن يعني بديوانه، وأن يقدم بين ذلك بدراسة واسعة تقارب التسعين من الصفحات، نشرت سنة 1954، وهي أوسع ما صدر عن أبي ماضي حتى ذلك الحين. وبهذه الدراسة وهذا الديوان طاف أبو ماضي على قرانه وعشاقه بكأس قديمة جديدة. أضيفت إلى كأسه في الجداول أو الخمائل، ويستطيع القارئ أن يستمتع بهذه الدراسة وبهذا الشعر، وأن يجد عندهما ما يروي غليله، ويشفي ما يصدره من شوق إلى هذا الشعر المجنح والكلام العميق والصورة والبعيدة التي كان يرسلها الشاعر أبو ماضي. هذا من ناحية.
ومن ناحية ثانية فإن ما يميز هذا الديوان ذاك التقديم الذي خص به جبران خليل جبران ديوان أبو ماضي الأول "تذكار الماضي" والذي تمت إضافته في هذه الطبعة وهو ينشر لأول مرة والديوان هذا يمثل شباب الشاعر وخطاه الأولى ويصور نشأته، ومدرسته، وتأثره بشعر من قبله. فقد حاول المختصون أن يفهموا هذا، ولكنهم عادوا خائبين، فلم يقعوا على تذكار الماضي. إلى جانب ذلك زاد من أهمية هذا الديوان التصدير الذي كان بقلم الدكتور سامي الرهان. وبعد فإيليا أبي ماضي في ديوانه هذا سلالم بين المنظور وغير المنظور، وحبال تربط مظاهر الحياة بخفاياها وكؤوس مملوءة بتلك الخمرة التي أن لم تشفها تظل ظمآناً.
