لاشك ان الكعبة المعظمة بنيت مرات ، وقد اختلف في عدد بنائها ، ويتحصل من مجموع ماقيل في ذبك انها بنيت عشر مرات : منها بناء الملائكة عليهم السلام ، ومنها بناء آدم عليه السلام ، ومنها بناء اولاده ، ومنها بناء الخليل إبراهيم عليه السلام ، ومنها بناء العمالقة ، ومنها بناء جرهم ، ومنها بناء قصى بن كلاب ، ومنها بناء قريش ، ومنها بناء علد الله بن الزبير بن العوام الأسدي رضى الله عنه ، ومنها بناء الحجاج بن يوسف الثقفي. ذكر شئ من حال الكعبة بنعد بناء ابن الزبير والحجاج وضع فيها من العمارة وما عمل لها من الأساطين والمياديب والأبواب بعد ابن الزبير والحجاج. حول هذه النثطة اختلف آراء الكتاب والمؤرخين والمفسرين والمحدثين.
