الولد فلفل منذ عمل فى محل بيع الأحذية، وهو يثبت كل يوم للحاج خليل البطاحى أنه عفريت، يفهمها وهى طائرة، بالإشارة يصعد السلم الخشبي، يرتقى الدرجات في خفة قرد، ويعود بالحذاء داخل العلبة الكرتونية فى همة يحسد عليها.
لقد أصبح فى العاشرة من عمره، وبمجرد أن يكشف الزبون عن قدمه، يخمن المقاس المناسب، ويسأل سؤاله التقليدى، وظل ابتسامة على شفتيه: "مكساه أم برباط؟".
وحسب طلب الزبون هو على حق طيلة الوقت، قد يكون من المناسب أن يقترح نوعية النعل، وربما الموضة، لكنه لا يتطرق للون من بعيد أو قريب، فهذا من خصوصيات المشترى، وهو فى كل الأحوال يزن الأمور بميزان ذهب، ويهمه أن يخرج رب الأسرة من عنده راضيا ومقتنعا أنه قد غلب الولد الصغير، وخمه فى الثمن.
