تكوّن الاعتقاد بـ"إصابة العين" أو "بصيبة العين" حسب التعبير الشعبي في المجتمعات الإنسانية منذ أقدم العصور، وقد عرفه الفينيقيون والبابليون وكثير من الشعوب عبر العصور التاريخية المتعاقبة، كما وقد شاع عند العرب في العصر الجاهلي شيوعاً كبيراً، وتردد على لسان النبي محمد صلي الله عليه وسلم وظل شائعاً حتى يومنا هذا. وقد انقسم الناس بالنسبة إليه فئات عدة، فمنهم من اعتقد به واحتاط من العين بالخرز الأزرق والمعوذات والرُّقي والاحجبة وغيرها ومنهم من لا يعتقد به ويتّهم الذي خالفه الرأي بالرجعية في التفكير، ومنهم من يشك في أمره... نظراً لما سببه الاختلاف بالرأي من إشكاليات بين مصدق للإصابة بالعين ونافٍ لها.
عُني المؤلف "راجي الأسمر" بوضع هذا الكتاب الذي يدور حول الإصابة بالعين وحقيقتها وسبل الوقاية والعلاج منها، وهدفه إلقاء الضوء على هذا الموضوع الغامض الذي أثار الجدل والانقسام حوله منذ أقدم العصور.
وفي محاولة لمعالجة كل الأبعاد التي تضيء جوانب موضوع الدراسة عمد المؤلف إلى تقسيم مادة بحثه إلى ثمانية فصول وملاحق جاءت عناوينها كما يلي: الفصل الأول تعريف الحسد، العين، العائن، ألمعيون، الفصل الثاني: الاعتقاد بـ إصابة العين عند الشعوب، الفصل الثالث: الإصابة بالعين في العصر الجاهلي، الفصل الرابع: الإصابة بالعين في الإسلام، الفصل الخامس: الناس والاعتقاد بإصابة العين، الفصل السادس: خصص "الإصابة بالعين. الفصل السابع: الوقاية من العين وعلاجها عند المؤمنين منها، أما في الملحق فقد تضمن فصولاً في كتاب "ابن قيم الجوزية الطب النبوي" تدور حول الموضوع، كما وضمنه ردّ سماحة الشيخ "عبد العزيز بن باز" الرئيس العام لإدارات البحوث العلمية والإفتاء والدعوة، على سؤال طرح عليه مفاده: هل كتابة التعاويذ من الآيات القرآنية وغيرها وتعليقها في الرقبة شرك أو لا؟
