هذا الكتاب جمعٌ نفيس بين ثلاث مختصرات هي العمدة في الفقه الشافعي؛ «التنبيه»، و«الحاوي الصغير»، و«منهاج الطالبين». اتخذ مصنفه كتاب « منهاج الطالبين » أصلاً في ترتيب الكتاب وتقسيمه إلى كتب وأبواب وفصول، واتبعه أيضاً في ترتيب المسائل الداخلة تحت تلك الأبواب والفصول، أما المسائل التي ليست في « المنهاج » فجعلها في آخر كل باب .
ومؤلفه هو العلامة الحافظ ولي الدين أبو زرعة بن الحافظ الكبير عبد الرحيم العراقي .لم يكتف مصنفه ابن العراقي بالوقوف على عبارات هذه الكتب الثلاثة، بل أضاف إليها فوائد وزيادات وتعليقات من أهم كتب الشافعية؛ كـ« نكت التنبيه » للنشائي، و« السراج » لابن النقيب، و« توشيح التصحيح » لابن السبكي، و« تصحيح الحاوي » لابن الملقن، و« تصحيح المنهاج » للبلقيني، وغيرها الكثير .
حوى الكتاب كثيراً من المناقشات والحوارات العلمية التي جرت بينه وبين شيوخه وعلماء عصره؛ كوالده، وشيخه العلامة البلقيني .وقد يرى الناظر في الكتاب ابتداء أن المصنف يجمع أقوال الأئمة فحسب، غير أن الناظر والمتأمل يلحظ فيه اختياراته وترجيحاته المنثورة .
ولعل من أبرز ميزاته العديدة كونه حرَّر الراجح المفتى به؛ إذ نزَّل مؤلفه أقوال أئمة المذهب منزلة الأدلة، وعليها يعلق وبها يستشهد، فكان كتاباً جامعاً في بابه، غنياً مغنياً في مضمونه .
