Book Description
The Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) is the first organized party in the Near East to have a definite national doctrine and a well structured ideology(1). The SSNP has played a prominent role in shaping the make-up of the political and intellectual environment of the Near East both through its intimate involvement in political events and its influence on the intellectual stirring in the area.
In the present work, the basic and reform principles of the SSNP are presented based on the writings of Saadeh and his teachings.THis is followed by an overview of the early history of the Party from its founding in 1932 to the martyrdom of Saadeh in 1949 which will serve to illustrate the actualization of the ideology of the SSNP in the details of national and political struggle. A chronology of events relevant to the history of the SSNP forms the final segment of this monograph.
While it contains the principles on which the Party was founded, the present work should be viewed as an introduction to the rich and varied intellectual heritage of the SSNP.
