وفي ظل النظام الرأسمالي السائد أبعدت الديمقراطيات الغربية, الاقتصاد- وهو ما تقوم عليه معيشة الناس- من حكم الشعب.. فحرمت الشعوب من أن تشرع للنظام الاقتصادي الذي تريده, بنفس المعنى, وبنفس القدر الذي تشرع به السياسة التي تريده, فأصبحت بذلك الديمقراطية مجرد شكل.. وأصبح حكم القانون مجرد شعار, فهو لا يشمل أهم جوانب الحياة.. ولم يقف الدور السلبي للرأسمالية عند هذا الحد, فهي, حتى هذه الديمقراطية الشكلية, عملت على إعاقتها, بل أعاقتها بالفعل, بصورة خطيرة..
