هذا العمل يضم بعض الآراء والخواطر والأفكار السياسية والثقافية والفنية التي شغلت المؤلف على مدار نصف قرن من الزمان أو أكثر مما أتيح لها أن تظهر في شكل كتابات نشرتها له بعض الصحف والمجلات في مصر وفي بعض الدول العربية منذ عام 1946. ولقد حرص على جمعها من تنوع ملحوظ وإصدارها بهذه الصورة بعد أن خاض بها نصف قرن من الزمان بما هي عليه من تنوع ملحوظ في الموضوعات التي كانت تتجاذبه في مسار حياته مما كانت تتقاطع معه تخصصات غير قليلة.. ولو لمجرد تسجيل، وتأصيل أفكار ظلت توارده منذ منتصف الأربعينات ولا تزال تراوده حتى الآن.
أعاد نشرها بغير تحسين أو تصحيح أو تعديل أولاً حرصاً عليها من الضياع والتناثر وثانياً لأن فيما سبق أن طرحه فيها من أفكار في ماضي الزمان ولا يزال حياً رغم مضي هذا الكم من السنين. ومن عناوين مقالته التي طرحها في الكتاب نذكر: ستات البيوت وحقوق المرأة، أيهما أولى بالرعاية: حقوق المرأة أم حقوق الطفل، رصيفان في جاردن سيتي، الكمبيوتر ليس هو الحل، إصلاح الإدارة الحكومية...
مسلسل لا بد أن ينتهي، سياسة الإغراق لعلاج مشكلة المهن النادرة، لكي لا نصبح أمة في خطر: التدريب الفني والمهني احتياجاته وضوابطه، الكتابة والقراءة... خصخصة الآراء الموهمة، جوائز الدولة... وطوابير الانتظار، هل في مصر فن عالمي، رباعيات الإعلام، ليدي دي... غرام وانتقام، إعلام، الطريق غلى الديمقراطية... موصوف بديمقراطية المعرفة، أكذوبة الحكومات الوطنية بعد جلاء الاستعمار لكي لا تكون التنمية في واد الديمقراطية في واد آخر. أين نحن في بورصة الأوراق السياسية، جماعة الإخوان الإفريقيين، أين منتجاتنا في مطار أثينا الوطنية، أنهم يبيعون الورد في المطارات.. فهل نحت فاعلون، أسئلة مفتوحة إلى بلاد غير بلادنا في زمان غير زماننا...
