ويقوم كاتب المقال بتوظيف المقال الصحفي ضمن إطار إعلامي محدد إلى التوظيف السياسي لوسائل الإعلام أو المقال الصحفي أو المقال العمودي، كما حددها جانوتس على أنها إخفاء صفة الشرعية أو القبول الإجتماعي لأفكار ومفاهيم معينة وإستبعاد أفكار ومفاهيم أخرى من الجدل أو النقاش السياسي، أي أنها تعمل على ترتيب قائمة الإهتمامات السياسية في إطار من القيم والمعارف والآراء بشكل متوافق وإستبعاد الآراء والأفكار المتنافرة بشكل يقدم القضايا والمعلومات السياسية في كل متماسك من خلال عرض يقوم على الدقة والوضوح للحقائق.
ومن الضروري أن يهتم كاتب المقال الصحفي أو المقال العمودي أثناء تناوله القضايا السياسية أن يقوم بالتركيز على الموضوع المراد تناوله ووضعه داخل إطار مركز، لكي يخاطب قلوب ومشاعر وأحاسيس القراء، وليخرج من تناوله لمثل هذه الموضوعات بالحكمة والعبرة والموعظة.
