هذا الكتاب هو ترجمة مع تصرف لكتاب نشر عام 2002 باللغة العبرية يحمل نفس العنوان، نضجت فكرة ترجمته إلى العربية بعد أن ترجمت فصول منه، تحت راية وزارة الثقافة العراقية، التي جاءت محتوية على الكثير من الأخطاء الجسيمة والتحريف بما في ذلك تحريف الأسماء ومفهوم مناف لواقع الأحداث وتوثيق غير صحيح للمصادر.
لذا أخذ مؤلف الكتاب الدكتور نسيم قزاز على عاتقه ترجمته ترجمة موثوق بها إلى العربية حفاظاً على الحقيقة والتاريخ.
نهاية الجالوت - بحث شامل ومستفيض عن الأقلية اليهودية التي آثرت البقاء في وادي الرافدين ولن تنضم إلى الأغلبية الساحقة من أبناء جلدتها التي رحلت إثر الهجرة الجماعية إلى إسرائيل في مطلع العقد السادس من القرن المنصرم، تقلص عددها من حوالي عشرة آلاف نسمة في بداية الخمسينات إلى أربعمئة فقط عام 1974 وهي السنة الأخيرة التي يتناولها البحث.
يستند هذا البحث على مصادر متنوعة من الصحف والمجلات ووثائق رسمية ومنشورات "الوقائع العراقية" (الجريدة الرسمية للحكومية العراقية) ومذكرات دونها معاصرو الأحداث ومقابلات أجراها معهم المؤلف، إضافة إلى بحوث ذات علاقة بالموضوع.
تمسك المتبقون في عراقهم آملين أن تستب الأوضاع بعد الهجرة الجماعية ليعودوا ينعموا بالإطمئنان وبالعيش الرغيد، وبقوا مخلصين لوطنهم الذي أحبوه ولم يستخلصوا العبر إلا بعد مرور عقدين من الزمن عانوا خلالها من ظلم وإجحاف وظروف قاسية إبان الحكم الملكي وطيلة حكم الأنظمة التي علت سدة الحكم في العراق بعد الإطاحة بعبد الكريم قاسم، حيث اشتدت ملاحقاتهم بعد حرب الأيام الستة وزجوا بالسجون، ولاقى نحو ستة وأربعين منهم حتفهم تحت حكم البعث منهم من عُلقوا على أعواد المشانق ومنهم اختطفوا واندثرت آثارهم وآخرين قضوا في السجون من جراء التعذيب.
