يعد المنهج الإلهي بجميع أحكامه وتشريعاته ونظمه وآدابه، أضخم مسؤولية في جياة الخلق. ولقد أضطلع بحمل أمانته الأنبياء والمرسلون، وتبعهم العلماء والدعاة إلى الله عز وجل، واستقاموا على مسؤولية حمله في بنودها الثلاثة: العلم، العمل، والدعوة. يعتبر الكاتب: أنه "... انطلاقاً من جوهر المسؤولية عن المنهج الإلهي، تعد رسالة الإسلام من أعظم مسؤوليات الحياة وأخطرها شأناً في العالم، ولقد أكد القرآن الكريم هذه المسؤولية في عنق الرسول (صلى الله عليه وسلم) وعنق المكلفين من أمته جميعاً(...)".
ما يريد أن يقوله الكاتب "... أن أمة النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم تنقسم إلى قسمين: أمة إجابة، وأمة دعوة فأمة الإجابة: هم الذين استجابوا لله وللرسول... وأمة الدعوة: هم غير المسلمين الذين يجب أن تصل إليهم دعوة الإسلام عن طريق أمة الإجابة وكذلك الغافلون...". من هنا تأتي أهمية الكتاب في تأكيده على أبعاد مسؤولية العلماء والدعاة إلى الله عز وجل عن الإسلام والتي تمتد في حياتهم عبر خمسة محاور يتطرق إليها "نذير محمد مكتبي" شرحاً وتفصيلاً وهي: العلم، التطبيق، التبليغ، الإخلاص، الزاد الروحي جميع هذه المحاور يضي عليها الكتاب نظرياً وعلمياً، بالإعتماد على كتاب الله، وسنة نبيه صلى الله عليه وسلم، وعبر مسيرة غنية في تبليغ الدعوة منذ العهد الإسلامي الأول، وصولاً إلى زمننا الحاضر، مبيناً أهمية ودور العلماء والدعاة في إبلاغ الرسالة على النحو الصحيح؛ بعيداً عن الأهواء والمصالح.
وفي هذا يقول الكاتب "فواجب الداعية إلى الله تعالى ومن بلغ المنزلة العالية في العلم والحفظ والثقافة أن يختار لنفسه أن يكون من أحباب الله تعالى، فينبذ العجب والاغترار بنفسه، ويعرض عن الشهرة والألقاب، ويؤثر التواضع وإنكار الذات، ويرضى لنفسه مقام الشاكرين، ويعترف لأهل الفضل عليه في العاملين، ليكون شاكراً لله تعالى في أحواله جميعها...".
