هذا كتاب في الحديث انتقى فيه المصنف ما يقارب (1114) حديثاً من أحاديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم التي سمعها من شيوخه والمتعلقة بأمور الدين وأحكامه، ولأهمية هذا الكتاب فقد اعتنى "مسعد بن محمد السعدي" بتحقيقه فاهتم بـتخريج أحاديثه ، تخريجاً غير مطولاً، كي لا يمل القارئ، كما واعتنى بتصدير كل حديث بدرجته من حيث الصحة، أو الحسن، وهذان القسمان يعمل بهما كما هو معروف لدى طلاب هذا العلم الشريف وإلى جانب هذا قدم للكتاب بمقدمة عرف فيها بأهمية هذا الكتاب ثم ترجم للمؤلف.
كتاب في الحديث، فقد أراد الإمام أن يقوم كما قام أسلافه البخاري ومسلم بجمع الأحاديث الصحيحة التي رواها عن شيخه والأحاديث التي رواها منها الحسن ومنها الصحيح، وقد ورد فيها بعض الأحاديث الضعيفة أشرنا إليها في المقدمة مع أرقامها وألحقنا بهامشه كتاب إتحاف أهل التقى بأحاديث المنتقى.
