إن إستعمال النباتات الطبية قديم وعريقِ قدم الإنسان نفسه وقد اتجه الإنسان الأول للنبات كمصدر للغذاء والدواء بحكم الفطرة والمشاهدة والتجربة فكما أنزل الله تعالى الداء، أنزل معه الدواء وجعله في متناول كلاً من الإنسان والحيوان، ولعبت التجربة والصدفة دوراً كبيراً في إكتشاف الاهمية الطبية للنباتات، وما زالت النباتات في عصرنا الحاضر تتمتع بأهمية كبيرة ومتزايدة كمصدر للأدوية وخاصة مع إزدياد الأمراض التي انتشرت بكثرة نتيجة عوامل كثير كالملوثات المختلفة والمرتبطة بالتقدم الصناعي بالإضافة إلى إنتشار العادات الغذائية السلبية، فالنباتات مستودع غني للمواد الفعالة التي يمكن إستخدامها لإنتاج أدوية آمنة.
وفي هذا العمل المتواضع تم البدء بإستعراض موقع وتضاريس الأردن لبيان أهمية التنوع المناخي، والذي ينعكس بوجود تنوع في النباتات وبالتالي تنوع في الفوائد الطبية والغذائية المرجوة منها، ثم تم إستعراض قائمة بالنباتات الطبية الأردنية حيث تم إعتماد النبات كنبات طبي إذا وجد بحث علمي منشور في مجلة علمية محكمة يفيد بإستخدامه طبياً حيث تم تدوين الإسم العلمي والعربي والإنجليزي والعائلة، ثم تم إستعراض للفوائد الطبية لنباتات أردنية تم دراستها وإستعراض للمواد الكيميائية لنباتات أخرى.
