من المؤكد أن الواقعية كما ينبغى لها أن تكون وكما ظهرت فى الآداب الإنجليزية والفرنسية والروسية- وكما وجدناها في عطاء أعلامها- على تنويعاتهم- فيلدنج وسويفت وديفو وديكنز وبلزاك وفلوبير وزولا، وتولستوى وجوجو لوجوركى لم تظهر فى الأدب العربي الحديث ظهوراً شموليا مرتبطا بمرحلة بعينها من مراحل تطور النتاج الفكرى على عمومه، كما حدث خلال الفترات التاريخية فى هذه الآداب ولم تخلف حشدا من النماذج التى تتمثل منهجها بحيث تعطي- ككل- إطارا واضحا لمفهوم الواقعية كمذهب فنى وأدبى، وإنما كان الغالب على النتاج الروائى- فى بعضه- اتجاه نحو الواقعية على درجات متفاوته فى فهمه واستيعابه وتمثله كما عرفته الآداب الآخرى- ولهذا وجدت من الأفق اختيار "الاتجاه الواقعى" كعنوان لهذا البحث فى محاولة لتنبيه للفارق بينه وبين استيعاب الجوانب المختلفة للمذهب الواقعى فى شموله.
