لقد كان مسؤولاً مسوؤليةُ تامة عن التفاعل مع الواقع، مسؤولاً عن فهمه وتقديره والتعامل معه ومع نتائجه، لذلك استخدم كل الأدوات اللازمة لإنجاز المهمات على أكمل وجه، فبنى التحالفات، ونظَّم الجيوش، وأسس شبكات إستخبارية، ورصد ردود الفعل، وابتعث السفراء، ووظّف القوة الناعمة من شعراء وخطباء وبنى، نُظُماً دستورية وقضائية وشورية؛ كل ذلك في سياق متكامل من التخطيط والفعل الإنساني، وإذا كانت النتيجة غير مُرضية، فإنه يأخذ العبرة، ويصلح الخلل، ويتجاوز تداعيات الكبوة، ثم يواصل المسير.
نحن أمام فعل إنساني عملي متكامل، مفهوم منطقياً ومبرر عملياً، تنظمه غاية عليا هي تحرير الإنسان.
حاولنا في هذا الكتاب أن نرسم صورة متكاملة للعالم قُبَيل وفي أثناء عهد النبوة، ولم نقتصر في ذلك على المصادر الإسلامية، بل استعنّا بمصادر بيزنطية مصحوبة بمصادر حِميَرية وفارسية وحَبَشية، كلها تلقي الضوء من زوايا متعددة على الواقع الدولي والإقتصادي الذي تعامل معه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم.
لسنا هنا كي نسكن الماضي الجميل، ولا لنقدّس الأفعال والمواقف، بل كي نبني منهجية معرفية ونسقاً متكاملاً، يعيناننا على تأسيس وعي سياسي وإستراتيجي لواقعنا المعاصر.
