وفي هذا الكتاب يتناول المؤرخ المستعرب هنري لورنس القضيتين من خلال وثائق الحملة ومذكرات نابليون, ولم يكتف المترجم والكاتب العذب بشير السباعي بتقديم ترجمته لدراستي لورنس, بل كتب وجهة نظره في فصول قصيرة صغيرة أغنت النص الفرنسي, خصوصاً فيما يتعلق بوقوع بعض مفكرينا في فخ تصديق البيان المزعوم الذي خاطب به نابليون اليهود, يحثهم فيه علي بناء دولتهم في فلسطين.
