في مقدمة الطبعة الأولى من كتابه: "تحفة الزائر في مآثر الأمير عبد القادر وتاريخ الجزائر، الصادرة عن المطبعة التجارية بــ الإسكندرية سنة 1903م، اعترف الأمير محمد ابن الأمير عبد القادر الحسني الجزائري بأنه تعرض لعملية سطو، كان من نتائجها سرقة مجلدات وأوراق، كتب فيها تاريخ وطن عزيز عليه، وسيرة أحب الناس إليه، سُرق منه كتابه الذي أخذ منه تأليفه جهداً ووقتاً كبيرين: ترتيباً وتحريراً وتهذيباً، وكان يأمل بأن يلمسه السلطات براحتيه، ولكن ما كان يأمله لم يعد ممكناً تحقيقه، فقد سطت على كتابه "يد من لا بارك الله بأصله ونسله وسرقته عمداً من حرز مثله".
مما سبق يمكن لأي باحث أن يستنتج أن نسخة من مخطوط تحفة الزائر في كتبته الأولى لم تسمها النار التي أشارت إليه الأميرة بديعة، وأنها موجودة في المكتبة السليمانية في استنبول، وأن الدكتور سعد الله هو أول من عثر عليها، بعد ما يقرب من ثمانين سنة على سرقتها، وقد وعد بتحقيقها، وربط وعده بمشيئة لله، لكنه لم يفِ بوعده لأسباب لا أعرفها، فكان ذلك دافعاً لي لتحقيق تلك المخطوطة، وكان العائق الحصول على نسخة مصورة عنها، وقد حصلت على هذه النسخة سنة 2011م عن طريق أستاذي الدكتور بكري علاء الدين الذي اقترح عليَّ تحقيقها، فلم أتردد في الإستجابة لطلبه، لأني كنت قد عقدت العزم على ذلك.
