يشتمل هذا الكتاب على مبادئ وأسس البحث العلمي في المجالات التربوية والنفسية التي تصلح للباحث المبتدئ وقد اشتمل الكتاب على اثنتا عشر فصلاً عرض المؤلف في الفصل الأول مفهوم العلم وأهدافه والمقصود بالبحث العلمي وأهم مجالاته التربوية والنفسية، وتناول الفصل الثاني من الكتاب خطوات إجراء البحث العلمي، أما الفصل الثالث فقد خصصه المؤلف لطرق اشتقاق عينات البحوث التربوية والنفسية. وقد عرض المؤلف في الفصل الرابع من هذا الكتاب لأدوات جمع بيانات البحث التربوي أو النفسي وتناول فيه أنواع المقاييس التربوية والنفسية وطرق إعدادها وأساليب التحقق من صلاحيتها لجمع بيانات البحث.
وقد عرض المؤلف في الفصل الخامس من الكتاب لاستخدامات الإحصاء في البحوث التربوية والنفسية حيث تناول بعض المفاهيم الإحصائية اللازمة للباحث التربوي أو النفسي. كما تم تخصيص الفصل السدس لخطوات أعداد خطة البحث حيث عرض المؤلف لهذه الخطوات بالتفصيل حتى تعين الباحث المبتدئ على إعداد خطة بحثه.
وقد خصص المؤلف الفصول السابع والثامن والتاسع لمناهج البحث الوصفي والمنهج التجريبي والمنهج التاريخي على الترتيب، وقد تناول المؤلف في الفصل العاشر من الكتاب موضوع كتابه تقرير البحث العلمي بالشرح والتوضيح كما عرض في الفصل الحادي عشر من الكتاب دليل إجراء البحوث تناول فيه الخطوات الإجرائية التي يمكن للباحث أن يتبعها عند إجراء البحوث في المجالات التربوية والنفسية، أما الفصل الثاني عشر والأخير من الكتاب فقد عرض فيه المؤلف لبعض الأخطاء التي يمكن أن يقع فيها الباحث المبتدئ والتي يشيع الوقوع فيها.
