الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو إبراز الدور التاريخي الريادي الذي نهض به ساطع الحصري في الفكر القومي العربي المعاصر، وجهوده المتميزة في تطويره وتأصيله، من خلال نتاجه الفكري الغني، في هذا الصدد، والتعرف إلى الأسس الفلسفية التي انطلق منها، في صياغة هذا الفكر، وبالأخص علاقته بالفلسفة القومية الألمانية وربطه بظروف عصره، والحصري، فيلسوف الفكرة القومية العربية، ومرجع أساسي بالنسبة لجميع العاملين والباحثين في حقل "الفكر القومي العربي"، وهو "نموذج المفكر القومي" أو "المفكر القومي الخالص" بلا تعديلات أو إضافات خارجية، كما يصفه الأستاذ الياس مرقص في كتابه: نقد الفكر القومي-ساطع الحصري، فهو نقطة ارتكاز وانطلاق أساسية بالنسبة للفكر القومي العربي.
وستعمد هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل أسس الفكر القومي عند الحصري، وخصائصه ومقوماته، وربطه بظروف عصره، وأوضاعه، وخصائص الواقع الذي أحاط به، ومقارنته بالفكر الذي عاصره وحاوره وتصدى له، من ليبرالية وماركسية وشعوبية، وإقليمية، وقومية اجتماعية، وكذلك مقارنته بالفكر القومي العربي الذي انتشر في أواخر حياته، وفي المرحلة التالية له، فكر حزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي...
