لا يمكن وضع كتاب "حكمة الحب" في خانة معينة، أي لجهة التعاطي مع النصوص وتأويلها، فهو نص إشكالي لجهة التعاطي مع المدارس الفكرية والنظريات الإجتماعية في تيارات ما بعد الحداثة، فقد نباهُ مؤلفه "آلان فنكييلكرو" على إتساع الرؤية وفيض المعنى، بحيث يمكن قراءة كل مقال بوصفه متعدد الوجوه والأبعاد والخطوط، ففي فلسفة الحب يتجاوز المفهوم فعل العطاء والآخذ، ليتحدد في "إن رغبة الإنسان المتأججة في الحصول على كل ما يُمتِّعه، ونكران ذاته بلا يتحفظٍ يتلاقيان في مُفردة واحدة... نتحدّث عن الحب لتمجيد هَمّ النفس، وهَمَّ الآخر المدفوع إلى ذروته".
أما عن العلاقة بين الأخلاق والدين والحب، فهي ترتبط عند المؤلف بالأفعال حصريا، وإذ يتخلص الفكر الوضعي من المبادئ الدينية أو الاخلاقية، ويرتبط بالأفعال حصرياً، فإنه لا يحتفظ من الحب إلا بغريزة التملك...".
وعن العلاقة مع الآخر، في ضوء الواقع المعاش يحضر إلى ذهن المؤلف سؤال: "من أنا" ويقول: "لم يعد الواقع الإنساني مُعرّفاً بالعقل أو الفهم فحسب، بل بالعقدين الأساس التاليين: العلاقة مع الآخر، والعلاقة مع الوجود، عُقَد وليس معرفة: فليست المعرفة هي التي تؤمن قبلياً الوصول إلى الوجود أو الآخر، بل ظواهر سابقة للتفكير".
وعبر صفحات الكتاب، يقف المؤلف على مفاهيم مهمة مثل الحرية، المسؤولية، الفلسفة القبلية، الفلسفة الوضعية، الموت، العدم، القلق الروحي... وغيرها من مفاهيم، كما يقف المؤلف على نظريات نخبة من المفكرين والفلاسفة والأدباء أمثال: هيغل وهوسيرل وهايدغر وديكارت وليفيناس وأوبلوموف وإيمانويل بيرل وآخرون.
في لغات كثيرة هناك كلمة تدل في آن واحد على فعل العطاء والاخذ وعلى الاحسان والجشع وعلى المعروف والطمع انها كلمة حُب ولكن من الذي ما يزال يؤمن بالايثار ومن يأخذ وجود تصرفات طوعية على محمل الجد؟
