تحليل عميق للوضع العربيّ العام إنطلاقاً من معاينة شاهد عيان لأحداث العراق، بين الصف الثاني من الأربعينات وبداية الستينات في القرن الماضي، قدر له أن يكون في شوارع بغداد، يوم 14 تموز / يوليو 1958، ويرى جثة الوصي على العرش تُسحل، كذلك كان مصيره أن يعتقل ويُعذب في حملة قمع الشيوعيين لإنتفاضة الشوّاف بعد أشهر، وأن يشهد محاولة الإنقلاب على قاسم، ثم إنقلاب البعثيين عليه، إلى أن يقرر أن يهاجر سعياً وراء وطن يؤمّن له حقوق المواطنة والإنسان، هرباً من النزاعات على السلطة والنفط والإنقلابات وشعاراتها.
عبر سرده لمشاهداته في الريف الكردي، وبخاصّة في كركوك، مسقط رأسه، تبدو عين الكاتب أشبه بعدسة كاميرا الخماسية الأبعاد: تنقل مشاهدات أحداث تاريخية، وتحليلاً إقتصادياً وإجتماعياً وأنتروبولوجياً، وتقدم الخلفيات الإثنيّة والدينيّة، بأسلوب مشوّق يسحب القارئ إلى عالم عربي قارعت نوعيّة الحياة فيه العواصم الأكثر تقدّماً في حينه.
يمتاز هذا الكتاب بالجرأة في الإشارة إلى مسؤوليّات العالم الغربي، وبخاصة بريطانيا والولايات المتحدة وقيادات العالم العربي، وفي مقدّمتهم الرئيس جمال عبد الناصر، عن تردّي أوضاع المجتمعات العربيّة، وبقول الرأي من دون مواربة، كما يفترض بطبيب يتعامل مع الأمراض من دون مواربة، ولا يوخّى سوى إراحة ذاكرته التي بعنصرها حنين الفراق عن العراق عموماً وكركوك وبغداد خصوصاً.
